Portrait Collection

Never in United States military history has such a major photographic collection been assembled of esteemed heroes who embody the spirit of America.

There are very few subjects that evoke more pride and eternal gratitude than do the stories of the Medal of Honor recipients. In this photographic Collection, encompassing 156 portraits with each featuring an individual recipient, viewers experience the heroic and harrowing sacrifice these men made for their country and for their comrades.

This one-of-a-kind photographic Collection is like no other in its breadth, depth, and quality. The images were captured during nearly two decades of activity and travel throughout the country. A Collection portfolio consists of 156 large-format, contemporary black and white images, accompanied by a personal sentiment from each recipient.

Each portfolio is produced in accordance with the highest museum standards, is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, and signed by award-winning documentary portrait photographer, Nick Del Calzo. These historical photographs represent an enduring tribute to common men who responded with uncommon valor.

Only 35 of the Collection portfolios remain available. Ultimately, the goal is to perpetuate the legacy of the Medal of Honor. This can best be achieved through the acquisition of portfolios by corporations or individuals, with potential donations to prominent museums and institutions, where the Medal of Honor and the men who earned it, will be enshrined forever.

Since the inception of this project, many recipients photographed have passed away. It can be anticipated that within the next decade fewer than 25 of the esteemed recipients included in these portraits will still be alive.

The Collection is supported by the best-selling book entitled, Medal of Honor: Portraits of Valor Beyond the Call of Duty. This book features the contemporary portraits, along with a compelling account of each recipient’s heroic action. More than 350,000 copies of the book have been sold. When first published, it spent more than a month atop the New York Times Best-Seller List, and it is periodically updated to include newly designated recipients.

Quote: These portfolios will live in the archives of museums for centuries. There is nothing quite like viewing old photographs of remarkable people who played a significant role in the history of our country.
